“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist … ” Ephesians 6:14 (NIV)
In ancient times, a soldier wore a tunic, or loose fitting clothing, and combat was typically hand-to-hand. Loose clothing would have interfered in battle and a belt was necessary to tighten up any loose hanging ends. The belt of truth in our spiritual battle is meant to pull up any loose ends or sin that easily entangles in one’s life so that it cannot interfere with our decisions.
Many of us have some loose ends hanging around: fear, bitterness, anger, pride, greed, addiction, resentments, to name a few. The Armor is a God-given defense, and it’s our responsibility to stand firm, tuck in any loose ends, and stand in TRUTH.
People often, ask us, “What do you hope to achieve with this book?. “Our simple answer is this … that anyone who receives it, would keep it. Whether you pull it out for a few minutes or a few hours, we hope you will keep it and turn to it as if it were a good friend. In times of discouragement, you will find a hopeful word in here … in times of boredom, you will find a puzzle to take your mind off things … In times of utter despair, you may find the truest friend of all within these pages.
Do you ask yourself these questions too?
• How do I keep going?
• How can I get my mind to settle down?
• How can I know the truth when I’ve been lied to?
• How can I get my life back together?
• How is faith even relevant anymore?
It would be nice if we could tell you that this book has all those answers and maybe then some … and let’s just be perfectly honest from the start, this book does not. But what it does have is pieces … pieces of armor that, when you gradually put them on, when you slowly let the stories, words, quotes, poems, puzzles, artwork and all the other pieces of this book sink in, you find yourself a little bit stronger, a little more hopeful, and a little more equipped to find the answers.
And do you want to know the coolest part of this book? Many of the pieces of the armor are contributed by you, or by your cellmate, or by someone else in a prison somewhere, past or present, who put on a piece of armor and wanted to share their part in the battle with you.
Special thanks to:
